Abstract

Introduction: by respect to the spread of getting resistance to antimicrobial agents, new therapeutic methods such as plant-derived compounds and nanoparticles to killing the antibiotic-resistant pathogens are urgently required. This study was done to evaluate the synergic effect of leaves eucalyptus extract and nanosilver particles against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Materials and method: this experimental study was performed in Islamic Azad University. The disc diffusion method, well diffusion method and broth dilution assay was used in this study. Data were analyzed by SPSS-20 software.
Results: Result showed that all material has no effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa by disk diffusion and well diffusion. In Broth dilution method, the MIC of eucalyptus leaves oil and Nano silver particles against Pseudomonas aeruginosa were 12.5 mg.ml and 3.12 ppm respectively and the MBC were 25 mg.ml and 6.25 ppm. The MIC and MBC of eucalyptus oil-Nano silver particles were 6.25 and 12.5 mg.ml respectively along with 1.5 ppm of Nano silver particles.
Conclusion: This study showed that Nano silver with 1.5 ppm concentration mixed with 6.25 mg.ml of eucalyptus oil has synergic effect on inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The combined therapy caused increased effect and decreases the use of medicine and subsequently the decrease of toxification effect of medicine in order to therapy of infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
