Comparative study on selected search engines in retrieving information cleft lip & palate in 2013-2015

Abstract

Introduction: The rapid and extensive development of information and communication technologies has led to difficulties. One of them is too much information retrieval, so we need to select between search engines. The aim of this study was to compare selected Search Engines in retrieving information cleft lip and palate diseases
Materials and Methods: The current study is an applied research and was carried out using descriptive method. Eight search engines introduced as the most frequently used ones, were the statistical population. Then seven key words of cleft lip and palate diseases were chosen from (Mesh). After data collection, obtained data entered computer and SPSS V.22 and then were analyzed by descriptive method.
Results:  results showed that Bing, Yandex and Askjeeves had the highest Precision and they recognized as superior search engines. Bing search engine had the highest false drops and retrieval. Except Gigablast search engine rest of the search engines had the precision above 60%. Bing and Duck Duck search engines had the highest overlap from selected search engines.   
Conclusion: based on these findings, it can be concluded that the majority of surveyed and selected search engines had the high retrieval and precision.
