Abstract

Background and Aims: The ethical dimension of caring that guides the performance of nurses should be nurtured in the educational environment and nursing schools. This study aims to further understand the concept of caring ethic and strategies for its integration into nursing curricula.

Materials and Methods: In this narrative review, documents without a time limit and using the keywords caring ethic, teacher-student relationship, nursing education, and caring curriculum, alone or in combination in the Persian and English databases such as: PubMed, Scopus, Magiran, SID, Google Scholar and ERIC were searched. Finally, 35 relevant articles and two theses were reviewed.

Results: The basic assumption of the ethics of care from Nodding’s' perspective is that in the educational environment, the teacher has the role of the caregiver and the students have the role of the receiver of care. Knowing is a basic prerequisite for the ethics of care and respect, trust, honesty, and accountability of the educator are prominent features of the ethics of care approach. The four components of modeling, discourse, practice, and affirmation are practical and basic strategies for integrating the ethics of care into the curriculum.

Conclusion: Caring ethic has been introduced as a framework for teaching and learning processes in nursing programs. The development of the student's human relationships to others, patient, and society is the consequences of this approach. The application of the ethics of care in nursing curricula and, Informing and preparing nursing educators with this concept is recommended.
