Abstract

Background and Aims: Focusing on the concept of resilience in patients with heart failure appears to be essential. On the other hand, perceived social support plays a critical role in maintaining health and reducing the negative effects of multiple stressors in these patients. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between perceived social support and resilience in patients with heart failure.
Materials and Methods: This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The research population consisted of 200 patients with heart failure who were hospitalized in the CCU and cardiac wards. After obtaining informed consent, patients completed the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Sherbourne and Stewart Social Support Scale at the hospital. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Spearman’s correlation coefficient.
Results: The mean perceived social support score in patients with heart failure was 75.25 ± 18.70, and the mean resilience score was 68.01 ± 18.75, both of which were at a relatively good level. Furthermore, there was a significant positive correlation between perceived social support and resilience (P<0.001, rs= 0.420).
Conclusion: Given the positive relationship between perceived social support and resilience in these patients, it is recommended that appropriate interventions be implemented to enhance social support, thereby strengthening resilience in heart failure patients.
