Abstract

Background and Aims: Nowadays, it is essential to acquire skills in the clinical environment and for students to develop the necessary clinical competencies and qualifications. Therefore, due to the many challenges in the clinical environment of the operating room, this study aimed to determine the effects of team-based and task-based learning methods in the clinical area on the results of clinical evaluations of operating room students.
Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted in 2023 on 50 students of the 5th semester of operating room technology at Hamadan University of Medical Sciences. In this study, students were placed in two educational groups, team-based and task-based. After implementing the training process in the operating room environment, data related to the study were collected using the clinical assessment checklist of operating room students. Also, the analysis of these data was done at the level of descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS version 24 software.
Results: In this study, 44% (22 people) of the students were male and 56% (28 people) of them were female. According to the findings, the average total score obtained from the clinical evaluation of the students in the task-based educational group was 221.44, and in the team-based educational group was 205.84, the difference between these scores was statistically significant (p-value <0.001).
Conclusion: The results of the present study show the greater impact of the task-based educational method on their clinical performance, skill level, and scores obtained from their evaluation. Therefore, it is recommended to use this educational method to increase the level of students' skills and improve their performance in the clinical environment.
