Abstract

Background and Aims: The quality of life of pregnant women with blood pressure disorders is lower than that of healthy pregnant women due to physical and mental problems, was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of acceptance and commitment counseling on the quality of life of pregnant women with blood pressure disorders.
Materials and methods: This randomized clinical trial study was conducted on 58 pregnant women with blood pressure disorders who referred to health centers in Mashhad in 2021. Those eligible for the study were randomly assigned to two groups through permutation blocks. The intervention group received 8 sessions of 45-60 minutes of counseling with an acceptance and commitment approach. The control group only performed routine pregnancy care. Data were measured before, immediately and one month after the intervention using the WHOQOL-BREF Questionnaire. The analysis was performed using SPSS 25 and descriptive and analytic statistical tests (P<0.05)
Results: Before the intervention, the two groups were homogeneous in demographic and obstetric characteristics. The total quality of life score before intervention in the test group was 95.0 ± 11.0 compared to 91.6 ± 11.4 in the control group, but there is significant difference between the quality of life Immediately and one month after the intervention between two groups (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Group counseling based on acceptance and commitment increases the quality of life of pregnant women with blood pressure disorders. Therefore, it is recommended to use this counseling program to improve quality of life of pregnant women with blood pressure disorders
