Evaluation of Anxiety Caused by Coronavirus Disease 19 among the Population of Mazandaran Province, Iran, and its Effects on Lifestyle in Winter 2021

Abstract
Introduction: A new coronavirus called acute respiratory syndrome was reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, leading to changes in people's lifestyles after a while due to the pandemic caused by this virus. This study aimed to determine the level of anxiety about coronavirus disease 2019 among the population of Mazandaran Province, Iran, and its effects on lifestyle in the winter of 2021.
Materials and Methods: The statistical population of this descriptive cross-sectional study was selected using a random sampling method. An electronic questionnaire was used to collect the data that included demographic information and specific questions of the Corona Disease Anxiety Scale. The gathered data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 17) using descriptive and inferential statistical tests.
Results: Among 384 (61.9%) women and 236 (38.1%) men responding to the questionnaire, the mean anxiety was significantly higher in women than in men. Out of the total answers, 423 (68.2%) respondents had moderate anxiety in terms of psychological symptoms, of which 40 (6.5%) cases had severe anxiety. Therefore, in the questionnaire, a significant increase was observed in the use of vitamins and antibiotics.
Conclusion: With the outbreak of coronavirus, the level of anxiety caused by changes in people's lifestyles increased and involved a wide range of mental health dimensions. Consequently, it is necessary to think of appropriate measures to improve individuals' psychological conditions and quality of life.
